Support for charity
Charity of the year
Macmillan Cancer Support is Heathrow's Charity of the Year 2011.
Charity of the Year focuses our fundraising efforts on one cause and aims to maximise the impact we can make. It is key to our community investment programme as we try to ensure the money Heathrow raises is put into Macmillan projects within the neighbouring boroughs of Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Slough and Spelthorne.
We are hoping to raise in excess of £200,000 through staff fundraising events and passenger collections.
Every day in the UK, 822 people face the devastation of a cancer diagnosis. Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. Be it medical support from our nurses and professionals, financial support from our grants, or practical support from our information services – Macmillan aims to be there.
Over the past 100 years, Macmillan has achieved many great things for people affected by cancer. But right now Macmillan can only reach half the people who need help. Heathrow is working with Macmillan to reach more people affected by cancer and get them the support they need.
Despite it being a tough financial year, the generosity of our staff and passengers meant we raised over £200,000 in 2010 for Help the Heroes. We are confident our partnership with Macmillan will be as successful.

Community and Environment Awards
The Heathrow Community and Environment Awards are a source of support for schools, voluntary organisations, community groups and local authorities.
There are two types of schemes available: the small grants scheme, which awards grants of up to £2,500 six times per year, and the large grants scheme which awards grants over £2,500 and up to £50,000, up to three times a year.
Under each scheme, grants will be made to exciting local community projects focusing on five themes: ‘reduce, re-use, recycle’; ‘climate change and energy’; ‘protecting and enhancing our environment’; ‘bringing communities together’ and ‘developing skills’.
Please note: due to the number of applications received each round it is not possible for the Community and Environment Awards to support every eligible project. It is up to the discretion of the judges to determine which projects will be successful in receiving a grant and all decisions made by Heathrow and Groundwork are final and not open to discussion.

Passenger collections
There are coin collectors situated around Heathrow’s terminals for donations of spare currency and this money also goes towards our Charity of the Year and to the BAA Heathrow Community and Environment Awards.
You may also see these other selected charities collecting money around the Heathrow terminals from time to time:

- Children in Need: bbc.co.uk/pudsey

Matched funding
BAA Heathrow actively supports employees in their fundraising efforts. Financial support is made to employees engaged in their own charitable fundraising.
