Grants - Community and Environment Awards

Small grants

The small grants awards are funded through foreign and British currency which is donated every day by passengers in Heathrow’s baggage halls and departure lounges. Heathrow and the BAA Communities Trust match-fund the money donated by passengers up to a cap of £30,000 per annum from each organisation. Based on our previous passenger collections we predict there will be around £100,000 available for the awards in 2010.

Please note: If your organisation or group currently holds a grant from the Heathrow Community and Environment Awards, you will not be eligible to reapply until the project is complete and all literature has been submitted to the satisfaction of Groundwork and Heathrow Airport. If you have received an award in the past and the project is now complete you are eligible to re-apply but you may be unsuccessful in favour of supporting other organisations or groups if the awards are over subscribed.

The awards are delivered in partnership with Groundwork Thames Valley. If you have any questions about the awards please contact community@groundwork.org.uk.

Large grants

The large grants awards are funded in a unique way by money collected from Heathrow’s airlines that breach the Government’s noise limits on departure. Airlines are fined £500 for breaches of 3 decibels or less and £1,000 for over 3 decibels (for more information visit www.heathrowairport.com/noise).

The awards are designed to help groups across the Heathrow area to fund projects to support their community and improve their local environment with awards of over £2,500 and up to £50,000. The awards are made up to three times a year.

Please note that there is only limited funding in each round and submitting an application does not guarantee success. There are many eligible projects taking place in the funding area and it is not possible for Heathrow to offer support to them all. It it therefore up to the discretion of the judges to decide which projects to support.

Other useful information

If you are invited to make a final application and are unsuccessful, you will not be able to reapply for the same project for 12 months. However you will be able to submit an expression of interest for a different project (within the same organisation). If you are invited to make a final application and are successful, you will only be able to submit an expression of interest for another project where the total grant you hold is less than £50,000. The total grant held by your organisation within a 12 month period must not exceed £50,000.

Applicants with an unsuccessful expression of interest are welcome to reapply at any time.

The awards are delivered in partnership with Groundwork Thames Valley. If you have any questions about the awards please contact community@groundwork.org.uk.

Applicants completing a final Application Form must ensure that all necessary supporting literature is included with the submission.

Please note that we cannot accept copies of actual CRB disclosure forms, but will require evidence that staff and volunteers are subjected to a CRB check where required. This may be a copy of your organisation’s policy or a list of staff who have a current CRB disclosure.
