About the consultation
Why are we consulting?
Following the Airports Commission's decision to shortlist our north west runway proposal at Heathrow, we are consulting with people and businesses most affected.
Our proposal is one of three shortlisted by the Commission. The other two are the 'Heathrow Hub' proposal submitted independently by a company not connected with us, and a proposal put forward by Gatwick Airport.
To avoid confusion, the Heathrow Hub is not an option developed by us. We think our own north west option is a better solution.
The commission has asked us to talk to local communities and other interested parties. We want to know what our neighbours think about our proposal.
Why consult now?
We have to submit our refined proposal to the Commission in early May. By consulting now we make sure we have time to take your views in to account. The consultation runs for six weeks from Monday 3 February to Sunday 16 March.
Six weeks may not seem long for gathering opinions, but it has to fit the time frame set for the Commission by the Government.
We'll give you more opportunities to express your views as we continue to develop our proposals.
Who are we speaking to?
We’re asking for opinions from the people and businesses likely to be most affected by our proposal for a new runway at Heathrow. That’s why we’ve sent this consultation document to over 120,000 homes and businesses in the Heathrow area and beyond.
What do we want to know?
Later this year, the Commission will consider the effects of a new runway at Heathrow. It will take everything into account, including the number of jobs likely to be created, improvements to public transport and the effect of noise on neighbouring communities. The Commission's task is to balance all these aspects when it writes its final recommendation in 2015.
As we refine our outline proposal for a new runway, we'd like to know what matters most to you. Please use this consultation to tell us how you think we can improve our proposal.
We also want to hear your views on our plans to manage aircraft noise, an issue that concerns everyone who lives close to Heathrow. And we need your thoughts on shaping of future compensation proposals.
And we want to give you the opportunity to get involved in the shaping of future compensation proposals.
Wherever possible, we want to make sure that our plans for a new runway and any mitigation measures reflect the views of those most affected.
