Airport management
Each of our airports has its own managing director and airport management team who are responsible for the day-to-day running of our airport operations and delivering agreed airport strategies.
Heathrow Airport
Chief Operating Officer: Normand Boivin
Normand joined as Heathrow’s Chief Operating Officer in August 2011. He was previously Operations Director for Aéroports de Montréal and has almost 30 years’ experience of the aviation industry.
Normand started his career in 1982 as an air traffic controller for Transports Canada, and has held several positions in the Canadian airport management sector, including Vice-President Operations of Montréal’s two international airports; Facilities Development Director at Montréal Dorval Airport; and General Manager at Québec City Airport.
Terminal 1 – Operations Director: Ian Hanson
Ian started working at Heathrow in October 2006 as Training Manager for security, health and safety before transferring into operations in 2008. He has held a number of different operational roles before becoming Head of Operations in Terminal 4.
In June 2012, Ian switched to Terminal 1 where he is now the Operations Director. Prior to Heathrow, Ian’s career was primarily focussed on learning and development and engineering, working for companies such as Mars and Southern Water.
Terminal 2 – Operations Director: Brian Woodhead
Brian joined the company in 1998 working for World Duty Free and through a number of roles in Retail, became the Retail Concessions Director for Heathrow Airport. In 2010, he moved into Operations and has been an Operations Director for both Terminals 1 and Terminal 4. Brian’s current role is Operations Director for the new Terminal 2, responsible for leading the programme until it opens in 2014.
Terminal 3 – Operations Director: Kathryn Leahy
Kathryn joined Heathrow in 2010 as Risk and Safety Management Director. She has spent the majority of her career to date in the aviation industry, over 13 years of which with Virgin Atlantic Airways. Prior to that, Kathryn worked in the financial services industry.
Terminal 4 – Operations Director: Tom Willis
Tom Willis joined the airport in early 2012 as Terminal 4’s Operations Director. He is an experienced leader with a track record of delivering operational change in large service businesses, such as Royal Mail.
Terminal 5 – Operations Director: Susan Goldsmith
Susan has spent the last seven years in the transport sector in a number of senior roles spanning bus, coach, rail and latterly aviation. She joined Heathrow in October 2010 from National Express Group, initially assuming business unit responsibility for Terminal 3 before moving to Terminal 5 in October 2011.
At National Express, Susan held roles as Managing Director for East Coast Rail and as Deputy Chief Executive for National Express Rail Division. Prior to National Express Susan’s career was focussed on the retail sector.
