When you're looking forward to your flight, nothing beats settling down to watch the action on the airfield. Here are some of the top spots where passengers can watch the take-offs and landings.
- Terminal 1 Departure Lounge: The Tin Goose, Caffè Nero and Costa Coffee.
- Terminal 4 Departure Lounge: AMT and Costa coffee bars.
- Terminal 4 View Heathrow Observation Deck (Gates 15 and 16): Offering a 270-degree panoramic view of the Southern Runway, View Heathrow is equipped with binoculars and touch screens to track flights.
- Terminal 5: Almost everywhere has good views but Gordon Ramsay Plane Food and wagamama offer particularly good vantage points.
Some airline lounges also have runway views – your airline will be able to advise.
None of the terminals has a spectators' viewing area for non-passengers. However, an alternative is provided by the Heathrow Academy (formerly the visitor centre), close to the Bath Road on the northern side of the airport. Although the Academy itself is not open to the public, there is a covered viewing stand in the car park. There is a charge to use the car park during the week and at weekends. You can use the viewing stand free of charge at all times.
For £35 you can enjoy unique elevated runway views from the comfort of the Renaissance Hotel's Club Lounge. Designed with the aircraft enthusiast in mind, this day package includes parking, unlimited coffee, tea and soft drinks in the lounge, and internet access.
