Security

Since 2006, the threat level has remained high and will do for the foreseeable future. Additional security measures have put our security operation under strain and meant longer waiting times for passengers going through security.

This year we have continued to invest in security and new technology to improve passenger experience while still complying with Government security measures. We have deployed the best technology available for the purpose of screening people and their belongings across all of our security screening areas.

In 2007 we recruited an additional 1046 security staff at Heathrow and opened nine new security lanes.

Security queuing has been a real focus in our drive to improve the airport experience for our passengers and the removal of the one bag restriction at Heathrow means and we are now beginning to see the benefits of our investment with improving feedback from passengers and few people having to queue for more than ten minutes (see section on ‘Our Passengers ’).
