While millions of us enjoy flying every year there is a noisy downside for the people who live or work near to airports.
Charitable support
Charity of the year
BAA Heathrow’s staff have chosen Help for Heroes as Heathrow’s charity of the year 2010. The initiative is a key part of BAA’s community relations programme. We are hoping to raise in excess of £100,000 through staff fund-raising events and passenger collections.
Help for Heroes raises money to support members of Britain's armed forces who have been wounded in active service. The money raised will help aid these young men and womens' recovery and transition into a fulfilling life. Projects like the creation of Personel Recovery Centres in local areas throughout the UK, will provide these servicemen with much needed medical and welfare support, as well as the knowledge they are cared for. Help for Heroes are non political. They and now Heathrow's employees, just want to help our returning heroes.
Despite it being a tough financial year, the generosity of our staff and passengers meant we raised £100,000 in 2009 for Age Concern/Help the Aged. We hope 2010 will be an even bigger year.

Community and Environment Awards
The Heathrow Community & Environment Awards are a source of support for schools, voluntary organisations, community groups and local authorities.
There are two types of schemes available: 1) The Small Grants Scheme which awards grants of up to £2,500 six times per year and 2) The Large Grants Scheme which awards grants of over £2,500 and up to £50,000 up to three times a year.
Under each scheme, grants will be made to exciting local community projects focusing on five themes: ‘reduce, re-use, recycle’; ‘climate change and energy’; ‘protecting and enhancing our environment’; ‘bringing communities together’ and ‘developing skills’.
Both Awards
Please not: due to the number of applications received each round it is not possible for the Community and Environment Awards to support every eligible project. It is up to the discretion of the judges to determine which projects will be successful in receiving a grant and all decisions made by Heathrow and Groundwork are final and not open to discussion.

Passenger collections
There are coin collectors situated around Heathrow’s terminals for donations of spare currency and this money also goes towards our Charity of the Year and to the BAA Heathrow Community and Environment Awards.
You may also see these other selected charities collecting money around the Heathrow terminals from time to time:

Matched funding
BAA Heathrow actively supports employees in their fundraising efforts. Financial support is made to employees engaged in their own charitable fundraising.
