Information for residents - change of runway alternation

30 July 2008

A lightning strike at Heathrow on the 28 July has caused some damage to runway lights.  Until the damage is repaired aircraft heading west will only be able to land on the southern runway after dusk.

Repair works are estimated to be completed by Saturday 2 August.  Until that time, aircraft heading west after dusk will arrive on the southern runway (27L) and depart from the northern runway (27R), out of their usual pattern of alternation.  Aircraft heading east, and aircraft heading west during daylight hours, are unaffected.

We sincerely apologise to residents for this unavoidable change to alternation patterns.  We are working hard to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
