Heathrow submission of runway options to the Airports Commission
Information for local residents
In November 2012 the Airports Commission was launched to examine the need for additional UK airport capacity and to make recommendations on how this could be met in the short, medium and long term.
In response to the request for submissions from the Commission for long term options, Heathrow has now submitted new outline proposals for a third runway.
This is the first step in a long process. The Commission is expected to shortlist new long term options by the end of 2013 before making final recommendations to government in summer 2015. If a Heathrow option is accepted, final approval for any new runway development is unlikely to be given before 2020.
In developing these proposals we have thought long and hard about the future of Heathrow and considered a number of potential options for expansion. At this stage our proposals are at concept level only and if any are shortlisted, will require significant further development.
