While millions of us enjoy flying every year there is a noisy downside for the people who live or work near to airports.
Heathrow Airtrack
Heathrow Airtrack is a proposed new rail link between Heathrow Terminal 5 and the existing rail network to the south and west, including Reading, Guildford and London Waterloo.
BAA has recently consulted on the major new works that will be required to link the Heathrow Terminal 5 station to the existing rail network in Staines. Details of the proposals can be found in the consultation brochure attached below. A series of public exhibitions to launch the consultation were held at Spelthorne Leisure Centre, Staines Library and Stanwell Moor Village Hall in February 2008.
The first phase of public consultation has now closed and BAA is carefully considering the responses received. A second phase of public consultation will take place later in 2008. This will consider the effects of construction and operation of the rail link on the local community and environment; the extent of the works required for the whole Heathrow Airtrack scheme; and changes that may be required to existing rail services.
An application for a Transport and Works Act order will be made to the Secretary of State for Transport early in 2009. This will give BAA the necessary consents to implement the scheme.
